Once again, the Center’s Annual
Expressive Arts Performance proved that creativity is not bound by
disability. On Friday , May 8th, “Out of Black & White,” was presented
at the Alfred and Rose Miniaci Performing Arts Center at Nova
Southeastern University and featured an exhibition of original artwork
as well as an original musical performance. Guests mingled with many of
the Center’s artists at a cocktail reception while enjoying the
exhibition of the Ann Storck Center’s Permanent Collection as well as 6
new pieces focusing on the “Black & White” theme of the evening.
Following the exhibit and reception, guests experienced the immense
creativity of the participants in the Center’s Expressive Arts Program
in the musical performance “Out of Black & White.” The musical featured
original songs, scripts, and sets created by the program participants.
The Expressive Arts Performance increases self-esteem and provides an
opportunity for the unique accomplishments of individuals with
developmental disabilities to be showcased in this annual event. “The
show is important because it ensures that the creative experiences
provided at the Center’s Expressive Arts Program can be shared with our
surrounding community,” said Stacey Lorea, Director of Expressive Arts
and Marketing. “It gives our benefactors and donors the opportunity to
see their impact on the lives those we serve.” Special thanks to Eastern
Financial Florida Credit Union for being the “Director Sponsor” and to
Joel and Marcia Hochberg for being the “Producer Sponsor” for this
year’s event.
