Once again, the Center’s Annual
Expressive Arts Performance proved that creativity is not bound by
disability. On Friday, May 21st, “Masquerade” was presented
at the Alfred and Rose Miniaci Performing Arts Center at Nova
Southeastern University. The event featured an exhibition of original
artwork, an arts & crafts station for guests to create their own
masquerade masks, and an original musical performance. Guests mingled
with the Center’s artists at a reception while enjoying an exhibition of
the Ann Storck Center’s Permanent Collection as well as pieces focusing
on the “Masquerade” theme of the evening. Following the exhibition and
reception, guests experienced the immense creativity of the participants
in the Center’s Expressive Arts Program in the musical performance
“Masquerade,” which featured original songs, scripts, and sets created
by the program participants.
The Annual Expressive Arts
Performance increases self-esteem and provides an opportunity for the
unique accomplishments of individuals with developmental disabilities to
be showcased in this annual event. “The show has become such an
important highlight for the participants,” said Stacey Lorea, Director
of Expressive Arts and Marketing. “They put so much of themselves into
the entire production. To receive recognition and appreciation of their
talents from members of the community is so wonderful.”
