COVID Case-Free With Gratitude and Pride

June 15, 2020

When COVID-19 became a visible threat to South Florida, life changed for everyone. Residential facilities like those at Ann Storck Center quickly became risky environments for staff and residents. Despite these risks, we’re proud and grateful to have had no positive COVID-19 cases in our facilities. How’d we do it? With the help of selfless staff, generous community involvement, and a high level of thought and care from leadership.

In March, administrative staff received technology to work remotely, preschool went virtual, and Adult Day Training (ADT) transitioned to 1:1 enrichment in our group homes and Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs). Since then, all staff receive a health screening upon arriving on campus in the Mobile Screening Station – an Ann Storck Center bus outfitted to safely take temperatures and conduct questionings one at a time. Even within the residential facilities, social distancing precautions have been strictly enforced. This summer, ADT will remain closed to group learning, and all preschool education programs will be conducted virtually.

Center staff across the entire organization have taken immense safety precautions at home and on the job. In a gesture of gratitude in support of front-line staff, we collaborated with some of our favorite local restaurant partners who faithfully and generously stepped up to provide weekly lunches for our essential workers. These folks and their food is amazing, and we encourage all to get out safely and support Eats Good 33, Georgia Pig, Mimi’s Ravioli, Riverside Market Plantation, Spatch, Stoner’s Pizza Joint, The Whole Enchilada Fresh Mexican Grill and Umberto’s Pizza.

We’d also like to thank all those who stepped up in facilitating access to PPE and donating handmade and other medical masks – essential tools for the safety of staff and residents. Valued Board members, vendors, banks, neighbors, churches, teachers, retirees and staff have been lifesavers in protecting our heroes.

The safety of our residents and employees remains the top priority. As a nonprofit providing essential services to an underserved population we rely on the generosity of our community. In difficult times, this support is even more critical. Despite indiscriminate hardships for everyone, we are overwhelmed by the generous contributions we receive. As always, we remain here for our community and because of our community.
